July 16 Day 46 Battle Lake 38 miles 3:55 riding
Hills, combined with a serious headwind, derailed the original plan to cycle to Parker Prairie. Not to be outdone by Pelican Rapids' pelican, Battle Lake has Chief Wenoga. Regrettably, we missed the giant otter at Otter Tail Lake. Mitch, one of the other guests at the motel, crafts wooden relief maps of lakes showing the underwater topography of the lakes. He sells them at craft fairs to people who have vacation homes on the lakes around here. He loaned me his computer while he goes to the movies tonight.

What a great way to remeber a trip. I have always used photos and video. Never took the time to put things down on paper. Pictures do not talk or tell the story just shows you where there. My skills from brain to pen to paper were never very good. Jerry you describe things extremely well!
Some wish they could and some
DO IT!
There's alway a coast at the top!!!
DOWN the other side of the hill that is.
Jerry, Michele & Roy,
I'm so very happy to see that you made it through Fargo with nothing more than an infection to deal with...perhaps whose chainsaw incidents only occur in the cold winter snow. I also loved the story of the Viking ship and the folks involved. I'll bet the real Vikings had similiar "close calls."
I second your friend Larry's comments regarding your descriptive writing; though the pics are wonderful, they do not convey the sense of emotion, feeling and relating to strangers met on your journey in near the depth that your excellent and descriptive writing does.
(On sailing charters I've always brought along a blank notebook or diary as a "Ship's Log" in which anyone, at any time, for any reason, could write, draw or use as they wished. Afterwards, everyone gets a copy. They are much more intimate and meaningful "memories" of voyages than all the photos put together).
Happy Pedaling. I admire you all.

Hi Jerry, Michele, and Roy!
Your blog is a treat, Jerry...like juneberry pie, perhaps it could be said. (Although I have never, alas, enjoyed said sweet creation, your description was mouth-watering).
I chuckled out loud at reading of the unnerving cafe owner who talked like the folks in FARGO the movie. I love that northwoods accent!
And your roadkill tallies, Michele and Roy, bring back some memories. I am jealous of your porcupine sighting. However, your choice of the northern route has probably limited the possibility that you may see squashed armadillos, as I did.
Good luck, good health (trust you're all better now, Michele), and good pedaling...
katie
p.s. Thank you for the shoutout in the entry on July 14! I was 21st at the national championships on Monday. Room for improvement =)
