I have fallen behind in my reporting. There wasn't time in Safford; there was no cell service in Buckhorn. Tonight we're in Silver City, NM.
These photos are in sorta reverse order. I don't know how to drag them around on this device. Please bear with me.
WarmShowers.org is a site devoted to matching cycle tourists with people who want to open their homes to cycle thomes to cycle tourists for overnight stays. We, for example, hosted an Italian woman who was cycling the perimeter of the Bay. We found Mons Larson on-line in Safford. He offered us his hospitality when we finally arrived in Safford from Globe, about an 80-mile ride. Mons' son, Tyler, spotted us at the bike shop in Safford and greeted us. At Mons' house, we helped him put together a dinner of Italian sliders (recipe from Cooking Light) and salad. We slept on the porch of his parents' house. The photo shows Mons (on the right) and his parents. In the morning, his mother made us waffles and bacon and eggs for breakfast!
There is a long climb between Globe and Safford. Michele and Steve grind up the hill. Actually, it's rare to catch Steve with us on a hill. Usually he's way ahead of us.
The supermarket in Peridot has the departments marked in Apache.
Mons's mother thinks big on cooking. We helped unload 250 pounds of tomatos. She'll make twenty gallons of salsa.
Pima, Arizona, lost 27 young men at Pearl Harbor. Per capita, Pima lost more than any other community in America.
