Coast to Coast Ride

June 23 Missoula Montana 61 miles 5:32 riding

Thirteen miles and 1500 feet to Lolo Pass. We're getting stronger. The climb was not as difficult as it would have been a couple of weeks ago.

Lunch at Ft. Fizzle. The cavalry built a fort to halt the fleeing Nez perce. The Nez Perce rode around it.

Rest day in Missoula. Ran into fellow Alamedan Dave Wainwright in the street. He's riding coast to coast in segments. He'll ride with us tomorrow. Minor service to bikes.

Hope all is well and you have plenty of water. (ah, now remember Oregon?) Thanks for calling the other night, Michele. We enjoy reading your account, Jerry, and look forward to your return to computers in a few days. Happy 4th of July in the middle of real America (or should we say the real middle of America?). Hello to Roy too.

Well -- having just gotten back after a couple weeks absence, it's been a REAL TREAT catching up on the the fascinating text and marvelous pictures! The first thing I do after turning on my PC is to check for news of The Ride. Jerry certainly has a talent for writing -- making the less adventurous among us able to feel the rain on our backs, the wind in our faces, the parched throats, the tiring climbs --- and the thrills that must come for discovering ever-changing landscapes and meeting wonderful, kind people.

Alas -- it looks as if I won't make it to the July 4th porcupine races this year -- but I continue to look forward to meeting up with you at some point (bicyle-less) on the eastern side of the Mississippi!
